My Mom

Went to visit my mom today in the hospital.  She is in isolation after her radiation since her immune system is so low and she had some type of infection.  It was so nice to sit and talk without interruption for butt wiping, crayon finding or food making....you know what I mean??

She is in good spirits but could use some prayers.  So send them her way.  I can't imagine all that she has gone through these past couple of months from chemo to radiation.  She has been so brave and optimistic.  She has always been the one taking care of everyone else and now she is on the receiving end.  She is taking on this challenge with patience, optimism and grace.  What an example she is to me and how grateful I am to have such a wonderful mom!

Heidi,
Reading this made me cry...I love you and the children so very much!!! It was so special to visit today at the hospital for a few hours (just the 2 of us) and just talk, smile and be together. I know prayer is golden and everyone's prayers and special thoughs mean so much to me! Love, Mom

Heidi, your mom and your family are in my thoughts so often...I admire the strength and positive attitude we continuously hear/see from your family. The struggles you have gone thru with Tyler and the family time you spend together that I read/see thru FB and your's/Heather's blogs truly have inspired me to be more patient with my children and my family and reminded me what matters most in life.

My mom is in town from Utah. She spent the night at the hospital last night and has been holding Tyler quite a bit. He really enjoys being held, so he's less fussy and has responded well to the weaning of the oxygen. He's on regular air, but I guess it's still the high-flow to keep his lungs inflated. He's up to 9 cc's of food per hour, an improvement over yesterday's 2 cc's. The picture is of Betty and Bob Maddox (Heather's in-laws), Jacquie Lietz (Heidi's mom), Heather Maddox (Heidi's sister), and Walt Lietz, Heidi's dad. They did a 5K walk to raise money for the American Heart Association. Thanks to all who donated on behalf of Heather and Tyler!

Ok, should we just rename our blog the McMillan Pediatrics Medical Journal? Everyone has issues. Our family is congenital medical disorders. Tylers heart, Carls brain and Dannys Hips. Danny had hip discomfort growing up, visited the doc at 17 and was dismissed with "bad hips." He learned to make the best of his hips by monitoring his activity, walking slowly, making me wear hiking packs and taking breaks. After experiencing back pain this year he went to a doctor who took one look at his x-ray and sent him to orthopedics who sent him to a surgeon. We are blessed with a great friend who is amazing hip surgeon and chief of orthopedics AKA John Kronick who guided us in our decision. Our family is always taken care of in miraculous ways. Here are his hips: The Problem: acetabular (hip) dysplasia is a congenital disorder usually formed by age 3. His acetabular is more dish shaped instead of cup shaped.
