Dana Hills vs. Woodlands vs. Scottsdale

The kids did well at the swim meet this weekend.  Parker did not attend time trials and therefore had no seed time.  Still, he got 2nd in freestyle.   Hanna dropped a lot of time since last year.  Her 100 free relay got 1st!   Blake did not swim since he does year round with Aquabears.  Check out Parker's boots.  I took Blake and Parker to Vecna's for the delivery of the mobile home (more info on NBI blog for that) and Parker couldn't find any shoes.  I made him wear his boots and then he tromped around the pool with them And when he wasn't swimming, he was jumping off the swing.   The weather was nice.  It was fun to see the old peeps from Dana Hills.

State

Scott and Tyler went to the state swim meet in Clovis, CA from Thursday to Saturday.  They kicked it off with a pasta feed at our house and then I gave mullets to all of the boys except Ben and Marcus, who each got different variations of buzzes.   The boys had one goal in mind and that was to win the 200 free relay, which they did, with a record-breaking time of 1:21.36.  Scott was disappointed with his end-of-the-season performances but was still happy to be a part of the winning relay.   The "OG's," as Scott calls them.  The Aquabear pals. First place, baby! Tyler did well with a new best time in the 100 free of 1:05.xx, taking 1st.  He also got 1st in the 50 free but didn't go a best time.  He went 27:1x The parents of the Northgate swimmers Tyler with his paralympic competitors I like rapid firing the chaos at the end of the relays because the water's a buzz and everyone looks at the scoreboard with bated breath.  I did get a few of those tense looks but this

This weekend was North Coast Sectionals in Concord, CA, a big qualifying meet for state where college recruiters are watching.  It was rainy and cold.  There was a big upset about paralympic athletes' points being scored differently than regular athletes.  Last year, para athletes were awarded full points: 20 for 1st, 17 for 2nd, and so on.  This year, a first place win by a para athlete won two points and 2-6 places won one point.  Tylers times were 50 free, 26.89, 1st 100 free,  1:06.19, 1st.   He was happy about that.   Scott didn't do as well as he'd hoped, even compared to prelims.  His times were  50 free, 21.24, 7th 100 free, 46.25, 4th 200 free relay, 21:13 split, 1:23.84 final, 1st.   200 medley relay, back, 23.92 split, 1:33.8 final, 3rd.   After his 50 free he looked up at the scoreboard.  He was upset.  My heart hurt for him.   200 free relay: Andrew Hallet, Jacob Mohrland, Mason Wendler, Scott McMillan Tyler, Kyle (50 free, 21:12, 6th), Scott, Zach (50 free 20.
