Doughnuts and Dads

Tyler's kindergarten hosted a doughnuts with dad's day, in order to celebrate Father's day during the school year.  Tyler was excited for me to go, which was nice, because for a while, he was waking up and grumbling, "I just want Mommy."  


The students sang a few songs, we ate our doughnuts, and then we threw around the balls outside.  It was fun.  The iPhone is convenient for taking photos when I don't have the big SLR or the didge, but its image quality is fair at best.  But a bad photo is better than no photo.

Tonight, at FHE, Tyler gave the prayer.  He said, "Bless that we won't be wiggly worms during FHE."  He has come a long way.  He has been able to keep his temper under control and he is doing well in school.

That is such a cute idea! I love it. What a cute prayer too. I'm glad he's come so far and is living such a good, full life. He is such a beautiful kid.

It's so great that your school would do a program like that to foster stronger father-child relationships and that Tyler was excited to have you come. I'll bet he was so proud to have you there! What amazing blessings that he is doing so well in school and that it's been such a positive experience for him. You guys have been such good parents to him.

My mom is in town from Utah. She spent the night at the hospital last night and has been holding Tyler quite a bit. He really enjoys being held, so he's less fussy and has responded well to the weaning of the oxygen. He's on regular air, but I guess it's still the high-flow to keep his lungs inflated. He's up to 9 cc's of food per hour, an improvement over yesterday's 2 cc's. The picture is of Betty and Bob Maddox (Heather's in-laws), Jacquie Lietz (Heidi's mom), Heather Maddox (Heidi's sister), and Walt Lietz, Heidi's dad. They did a 5K walk to raise money for the American Heart Association. Thanks to all who donated on behalf of Heather and Tyler!

Periacetabular Osteotomy "Hip" Surgery

Ok, should we just rename our blog the McMillan Pediatrics Medical Journal? Everyone has issues. Our family is congenital medical disorders. Tylers heart, Carls brain and Dannys Hips. Danny had hip discomfort growing up, visited the doc at 17 and was dismissed with "bad hips." He learned to make the best of his hips by monitoring his activity, walking slowly, making me wear hiking packs and taking breaks. After experiencing back pain this year he went to a doctor who took one look at his x-ray and sent him to orthopedics who sent him to a surgeon. We are blessed with a great friend who is amazing hip surgeon and chief of orthopedics AKA John Kronick who guided us in our decision. Our family is always taken care of in miraculous ways.
