Swim meet

Scott and Tyler competed in a meet against Benicia and Discovery Bay.  It was a Saturday that I didn't see patients, and that was nice, since I could see both of them swim.  


Coach Taylor thinks Kira is the greatest.  I don't know why Kira isn't swimming this year because I know she could do well.  Sometimes, the coaches jump in the lane and help the kids finish their races.


Scott's times are as follows:
25 free:  15.71
25 back: 19.29
25 breast: 22.11
25 fly: 17.9
100 IM: 1:33.65

Tyler's times:
25 back: 38.23
25 free: 30.55

Heidi's times at 8 years old:
25 free: 14.9
25 back: 17.96
25 breast: 19.16
25 fly: 15.81
100 IM: 1:19.7

So Scott wanted $100 if he could break Mommy's records, so we agreed on $25 for each of her records that he broke.  Keep in mind that Heidi's records from 1989 still stand.

I'm proud of Tyler because he has lots of drive.  We just need to refine his technique.

Later that night, we hosted the co-op.  All the kids were burned out and the heat didn't help, so it was not that relaxing.

Wow! I can't believe that Heidi still holds all those records from 1989! Impressive! ANd so proud of tyler for being such a little fighter. Good for him. Do you think Scott will earn $100?

My mom is in town from Utah. She spent the night at the hospital last night and has been holding Tyler quite a bit. He really enjoys being held, so he's less fussy and has responded well to the weaning of the oxygen. He's on regular air, but I guess it's still the high-flow to keep his lungs inflated. He's up to 9 cc's of food per hour, an improvement over yesterday's 2 cc's. The picture is of Betty and Bob Maddox (Heather's in-laws), Jacquie Lietz (Heidi's mom), Heather Maddox (Heidi's sister), and Walt Lietz, Heidi's dad. They did a 5K walk to raise money for the American Heart Association. Thanks to all who donated on behalf of Heather and Tyler!

Periacetabular Osteotomy "Hip" Surgery

Ok, should we just rename our blog the McMillan Pediatrics Medical Journal? Everyone has issues. Our family is congenital medical disorders. Tylers heart, Carls brain and Dannys Hips. Danny had hip discomfort growing up, visited the doc at 17 and was dismissed with "bad hips." He learned to make the best of his hips by monitoring his activity, walking slowly, making me wear hiking packs and taking breaks. After experiencing back pain this year he went to a doctor who took one look at his x-ray and sent him to orthopedics who sent him to a surgeon. We are blessed with a great friend who is amazing hip surgeon and chief of orthopedics AKA John Kronick who guided us in our decision. Our family is always taken care of in miraculous ways. Here are his hips: The Problem: acetabular (hip) dysplasia is a congenital disorder usually formed by age 3. His acetabular is more dish shaped instead of cup shaped.
