Christmas 2018

As tradition, we went to church on Christmas Eve with Heather's family and then went to Mary's Pizza Shack after.  It took an hour to get our food but it was good.


The kids woke up real early but we told them to go back to bed until 7:00.  Then we went down and opened presents.  Parker was real into opening the boxes and less into their contents.  Tyler was the most grateful for what he got.  I got Heidi a robe from Victoria's Secret but she had also gotten herself a robe.  Bah.  Scott was most excited about a case for his phone.  Kira liked her art supply box and Blake's favorite gift was his lego creations thing.

In the afternoon we went to Heather's house for din-din.


They got a hot tub which is pretty sweet.


These tubes were some kind of gladiator game in which you charged each other and tried to knock the other down.  I plowed Scott pretty good and he went down.



Heather and Jason are great hosts.




In Concord was this heavily-decorated, professionally built house.  It was no joke.  Just the infrastructure was plywood and it was impressive.

Overall I think it was a good Christmas even though I'm glad it's over.  Okay, bye.

I think that’s awesome that Tyler was the most grateful! I didn’t know Kira was into art. I bought both Siena and Turin art sets and they LOVE them! As far as the robe...still a very thoughtful gesture! Glad it was a good Christmas.

My mom is in town from Utah. She spent the night at the hospital last night and has been holding Tyler quite a bit. He really enjoys being held, so he's less fussy and has responded well to the weaning of the oxygen. He's on regular air, but I guess it's still the high-flow to keep his lungs inflated. He's up to 9 cc's of food per hour, an improvement over yesterday's 2 cc's. The picture is of Betty and Bob Maddox (Heather's in-laws), Jacquie Lietz (Heidi's mom), Heather Maddox (Heidi's sister), and Walt Lietz, Heidi's dad. They did a 5K walk to raise money for the American Heart Association. Thanks to all who donated on behalf of Heather and Tyler!

Periacetabular Osteotomy "Hip" Surgery

Ok, should we just rename our blog the McMillan Pediatrics Medical Journal? Everyone has issues. Our family is congenital medical disorders. Tylers heart, Carls brain and Dannys Hips. Danny had hip discomfort growing up, visited the doc at 17 and was dismissed with "bad hips." He learned to make the best of his hips by monitoring his activity, walking slowly, making me wear hiking packs and taking breaks. After experiencing back pain this year he went to a doctor who took one look at his x-ray and sent him to orthopedics who sent him to a surgeon. We are blessed with a great friend who is amazing hip surgeon and chief of orthopedics AKA John Kronick who guided us in our decision. Our family is always taken care of in miraculous ways. Here are his hips: The Problem: acetabular (hip) dysplasia is a congenital disorder usually formed by age 3. His acetabular is more dish shaped instead of cup shaped.
